Washington DC Conference back face-to-face; Alaska there in force

The Washington Conference was back in-person this year, giving our The American Legion’s members a chance to meet with elected officials to discuss legislative initiatives and priorities important to our veterans, military and their families.  It also provided a forum that allowed our Legion Family to hear from senators, representatives and officials from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as they address our members at the conference.  A “Know Before You Go” briefing was invaluable to glean detailed information before “Storming The Hill” on Tuesday.

And Alaska’s attendees were out in force as they visited with Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski, and eventually were able to meet with US Representative Mary Peltola’s staff.  Alaska’s elected officials have always been huge veteran supporters, all having a tie to the military – whether having served themselves, or having a immediate family member in the service; it’s ties like this that make Alaska critical in voicing our priorities for the MilVet community.  When you see the Legion caps in the halls of Congress, you can almost feel the strength in our numbers and how our voice is heard.

In conclusion, TAL National Commander Vincent J. Troiola’s testified before a joint session of the House and Senate Committees on Veterans’ Affairs.  Click here to watch the recorded testimony, and click here to read his written testimony.
