After the New Year festivities, I reflected on 2021.

We are a resilient bunch!  As a society worldwide, we dealt with, and for the most part overcame, a pandemic. And our Legion Family led the way!  Those of you that are veterans, or are still serving, understand the term, “Adapt and overcome!”  Well, we have done that!

Although we were unable to attend our National Convention in 2020, we certainly did in 2021 in Phoenix.  Yes, we had some hoops to jump though – masks, social distancing, hand washing – but we were able to have a very successful convention, electing our current slates of National Officers for The American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion.  Resolutions were debated, some passed, some not.  And reports to our separate delegations showed that grassroots members thought outside the box; even with a pandemic, they figured out ways to still serve the Mission – to support our veterans, our servicemembers, and their families.  Yes, “Adapt and Overcome!”

Personally, 2020 put my dreams on a one-year hold.  During this past year of 2021, I am amazed how we picked back up the gauntlet, with events being planned, as if COVID-19 was simply a bump in the road.

Fundraising efforts are going in full swing; again, my sincerest thanks to Spenard Post 28 in Anchorage for hosting the 2022 Calendar Raffle.  And of course, to all those that sold and purchased those calendars.  All 1000 calendars were sold!  My sincerest thanks again.

Some Alaskan Legion Families have hosted amazing and productive fundraising events.  And all very successful!  SO grateful!

Post, Units, Squadrons and Chapters in Alaska have made outright donations to the Team Alaska coffers.  Again, so thankful for my Alaska Legion Family.

Planning events again and making arrangements made me realize that those dreams are becoming reality.  I’m not going to lie – I’m nervous and a bit frightened.

But then I remember the Mission – supporting our veterans, our military and their families.  I am simply #MissionDriven!
