When I say I was overwhelmed by the support of our Legion Family in Arizona, that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
This past weekend, about 20 Arizona Legion Family members, led by Ginger Cox, pulled out all the stops and held an exciting, fun and very successful fundraiser in support of the journey to see me elected as the American Legion Auxiliary National President. Pablo J. Cortez Post 26 in Mesa threw open their doors to host this event, and oh, what an event!
A silent auction with about 40 baskets was the big ticket item. There were booze baskets, kitchen items, bath goodies and even a cooler with a bit of real Alaskan halibut.
And outright donations were made as well, from New Jersey to Iowa to Michigan and of course, Arizona. The American Legion, Department of Arizona’s contribution took my breath away.
Two Mesa celebrities – Harley and Linda – joined the festivities for a bit to raise funds with dances. I can tell you their visit brought LOT of laughter from everyone in attendance.
A 50s & 60s costume contest garnered quite a few participants; to stay in that theme, a jitterbug contest was also judged! And all the winners received amazing donated prizes.
There was a 50/50 raffle and a couple hundred was raised.
Music was provided by Ivan and Monica Stein, who donated their time!
About 90 members attended, including a couple from the Department of Alaska and several from the RV Park I call my winter home.
I am all about family – my own as well as the Legion Family! Although Alaska is home, the Arizona Legion Family has welcomed me as one of their own (since I spend a few months in Arizona each year). And I am so honored, blessed and grateful to be a member!
While Family supports Family, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank each and every one of the wonderful Family members that put their time and energy into this particular fundraiser, and of course, for their continued support! I THANK YOU ALL! I hope to do you proud as I support our military and veteran community.
