The American Legion Family in Alaska is the best! Just simply THE BEST! And to prove that point, the Legion Family at Peters Creek Post, Unit and Squadron 33 hosted a fundraiser for Team Alaska that sets the bar very, very high!
Alaska woke up the morning of September 24, 2021 with snow in the Interior as well as the Anchorage bowl area so traveling to the event was a bit concerning. But those concerns flew right out the window when arriving at Post 33 that evening.
The night began with a wonderful potluck meal. Several silent auction tables were set up for people to bid on items. Outcry auction items were displayed on another table as well as one table filled with homemade baked goods. The Post was raffling off a shotgun. There were two quilts being raffled. A split-the-pot 50/50 raffle was available. And a wonderful band – Nothin’ But Trouble – kept everyone entertained between the various auctions. Tiny and “Vanna” kept the auction moving and with never a lull in the action; something was going on at every minute.
Post 33, as well as Squadron 33, seeded the fundraising pot with considerable donations – HUGE THANKS to you both! – and the Unit was the driving force for the event – HUGE THANKS to these members as they worked their fannies off!! By the end of the evening, with the various fundraising elements, the Legion Family in Peters Creek raised a considerable amount for the Alaska Leadership Development Fund.
Rumor has it that Peters Creek Post, Unit and Squadron 33 have just thrown down the gauntlet and are challenging other Legion Family entities in Alaska to meet or beat the amount raised for Team Alaska. I suspect if you wanted any ideas on how they accomplished it, it would just be a matter of reaching out to one of their members to provide some ideas.
It was an amazing night, and one that was very humbling to feel the very tangible support of our members! It was a night I shall never forget! How our Alaska Legion Family gets behind one another to support each other. I THANK EACH OF YOU! #MissionDriven
